This autumn, PortaSauna joined forces with outdoor adventure platform CampWild for a weekend of off-grid wellness in the heart of the Welsh countryside. Set in a secluded CampWild location near Abergavenny, the event brought together wild campers, cold plungers, and sauna lovers for something truly special – a chance to slow down, connect, and recharge in nature.
Saunas in the Wild
The idea was simple: unplug, unwind, and return to the elements. Our wood-fired HEX and HEXXL portable saunas were set up just metres from natural cold plunge pools, filled with crisp spring water from the surrounding landscape. Guests camped under the stars, cooked over open fires, and embraced the rhythm of nature – from sunrise hikes to late-night steam sessions.
This wasn’t a spa weekend – it was something deeper. It was about reconnecting with your body, with the wild, and with others.
Sauna + Cold = Pure Reset
The weekend focused on contrast therapy – the practice of switching between hot and cold to improve circulation, boost mood, and aid recovery. With firewood-fuelled saunas and icy plunge pools on tap, it was the perfect place to test the benefits of this ancient wellness ritual.
As PortaSauna’s Commercial Director, Harry Beardsley, put it:
“Our mission has always been to bring sauna culture back to the outdoors. This event was about more than heat and cold – it was about connection. To nature. To ourselves. To each other.”
CampWild's Take
For CampWild, this retreat was the start of something bigger.
“We’re unlocking wild spaces so people can have meaningful experiences,” said co-founder Tim. “Bringing PortaSauna into one of our secret locations helped us offer a weekend that was raw, simple, and nourishing.”
Together, we created a pop-up retreat that felt a million miles from modern life – but was just a few hours from home.
