Highlights

Nordic-Inspired Sauna

Löyly and Jää Sauna is inspired by the Nordic tradition of combining heat, cold and nature.

The name reflects the balance of sauna steam and ice-cold contrast: löyly meaning the steam and spirit of the sauna, and jää meaning ice.

Wood-Fired KABINXL Sauna

Zoe uses the PortaSauna KABINXL, a larger wood-fired sauna designed for group sessions and shared outdoor experiences.

It creates the kind of heat, steam and atmosphere that makes outdoor sauna feel special.

Plunge

Cold plunge is part of the Löyly and Jää experience.

Guests can move between the heat of the sauna and the cool reset of the plunge, taking the experience at their own pace.

Silent Sauna

For those who want stillness, Löyly and Jää offers silent sauna sessions.

These sessions are designed for quiet reflection, meditation and deep rest.

Sunrise Sauna

Start the day in the heat.

Sunrise sauna sessions are designed to help guests wake slowly, breathe deeply and step into the day feeling clear, calm and energised.

Sunset & Night Sauna

Evening sauna sessions bring a different kind of atmosphere.

As the light drops and the fire glows, guests can enjoy a slower, more reflective sauna experience under the evening sky.

Lakeside Sauna & Book Club

Löyly and Jää also offers lakeside sauna and book club sessions, bringing together reading, nature, conversation and sauna culture.

About Zoe Hall

Löyly and Jää Sauna was founded by Zoe Hall, a sauna and cold plunge enthusiast based in Skipton, West Yorkshire.

Zoe created Löyly and Jää Sauna to share her love of Nordic-style sauna culture with others. For her, sauna is more than sitting in the heat. It is a ritual: warming the body, clearing the mind, stepping into the cold, resting, connecting and repeating.

Her sessions are designed to feel welcoming, atmospheric and memorable, whether you are joining for a sunrise reset, a quiet silent sauna, a plunge session or a lakeside book club.

The Sauna Experience

Löyly and Jää Sauna uses the PortaSauna KABINXL to create an authentic outdoor sauna experience.

The session is built around simple, powerful contrasts: heat and cold, fire and water, silence and conversation, energy and rest.

Depending on the experience, your session may include:

  • Wood-fired sauna
  • Cold plunge
  • Silent sauna
  • Meditation
  • Open fire
  • Sunrise sauna
  • Sunset or night sauna
  • Lakeside gathering
  • Book club discussion
  • Time outside in nature

Guests are encouraged to take things at their own pace. You can enjoy the sauna, step out for fresh air, take a plunge if you choose, rest, warm up again and repeat.

Usual Sauna Session Flow

This can vary depending on the session type, location, weather and group.

Arrival

Arrive a few minutes early, meet Zoe and settle into the space.

You will be shown where to change, where to leave your belongings and how the session will run.

Round One

Step into the KABINXL for your first sauna round.

Let your body adjust to the heat slowly. Sit, breathe and enjoy the first wave of warmth.

Cool Down

Step outside into the fresh air.

You may choose to cool down naturally, sit by the open fire or prepare for a plunge.

Plunge

For sessions that include cold water, take the plunge gently and at your own pace.

There is no pressure to stay in for a set time. The aim is to feel refreshed, not pushed.

Round Two

Return to the sauna and warm through again.

This second round often feels calmer as the body settles into the rhythm of heat, cold and rest.

Final Rest

Finish with a final cool down, hydration and time to return slowly before heading home.

Trip Tips

Bring Water

You will sweat in the sauna, so bring water and keep hydrated before and after your session.

Wear Swimwear Underneath

Arrive wearing swimwear underneath your clothes where possible. This makes changing easier, especially for outdoor sessions.

Bring Two Towels

Bring one towel to sit on inside the sauna and one towel for drying off afterwards.

Bring Warm Layers

After sauna and plunge, loose warm clothing is ideal. A changing robe, dry robe, fleece or oversized layers can help you stay comfortable.

Footwear Helps

Outdoor sauna sessions can involve wet, cold or uneven ground. Bring suitable footwear such as sliders, sandals or outdoor shoes.

Take the Plunge Slowly

Cold plunge should be approached gently. Enter slowly, breathe steadily and listen to your body.

Bring a Torch for Night Sessions

For sunset or night sauna sessions, a head torch or small torch may be useful.

Go at Your Own Pace

The sauna and plunge experience is personal. You do not need to stay in the heat or cold for a set amount of time. Rest when you need to and enjoy the rhythm of the session.
